Meet your teacher: Giel Vleggaar

Giel Vleggaar, born on January 9, 1974, in Amsterdam, is a Dutch composer whose music seamlessly integrates elements from both classical and popular genres. Influenced by artists such as Beethoven, Stravinsky and Prince, Vleggaar’s compositions are characterized by their straightforwardness and danceability, coupled with deliberate structural designs. His works often feature rhythms and melodies that are both engaging and humorously deceptive, creating a unique auditory experience.

His compositions encompass a wide range of styles and ensembles. Notable works include his Piano Concerto, “Ayre of Solace,” and “Dead as Disco,” all featured on the album “Giel Vleggaar: Orchestral Works.” These pieces exemplify his ability to blend classical orchestration with contemporary rhythmic and melodic elements.
